Will you help to shape the future of the North Wessex Downs?
The North Wessex Downs AONB is a nationally protected landscape of international significance. It is valued for its dramatic wide views across open, rolling downland which contrast with more intimate, wooded landscapes and river valley meadows dotted with historic features from the ancient Avebury World Heritage Site to compact spring-line villages along the slopes of the chalk hills.
These landscapes and the wildlife they support are some of the special features of the North Wessex Downs. Their future is protected and enhanced through an AONB Management Plan, a legal document which is adopted by all the local authorities in which the North Wessex Downs sit.
Every five years the AONB Management Plan is reviewed. We are about to embark on a public consultation of the draft Management Plan to cover the period 2019-24. This is your opportunity to make known your thoughts and ideas on this draft Plan.
The Consultation Draft is being finalised and we expect to publish it before the end of July, after which there will be 13 weeks to comment. Details will be posted on this dedicated North Wessex Downs AONB Management Plan webpage. There will be an option to respond to a short survey or to make specific comments about issues, locations or topics which are of particular concern or interest to you.
If you would like to contribute to this consultation, you can either check back into this webpage from time to time over the next couple of weeks, or you can let us know your contact details (all we need is your name and email address) and we will send you an email as soon as the consultation is uploaded.
Everyone is important in this process; your ideas, comments, thoughts and suggestions can all help us to shape the Management Plan to shape the future of the North Wessex Downs. It’s an opportunity to let us know what you love about the area, and how you think that change should be managed to best safeguard the natural beauty of the AONB over the next five years
