Woodland site visits

B&Q Good Woods Project in the North Wessex Downs

North Wessex Downs Good Woods Project Area

Following on from the very successful North Wessex Downs Woodland Forum in February this year, we are a delivery partner in a new woodland initiative which is working across the South East and East of England.

Good Woods is a ground-breaking project aiming to breathe new life into UK woodlands. B&Q has teamed up with sustainability charity BioRegional and forestry charity the Sylva Foundation to revive woodlands to provide environmental, social and economic benefits.

It will focus on reaching out to owners and managers of under-managed woodlands. The project will promote the benefits of woodland management planning, help to strengthen links between communities and woodlands, build forestry skills, and develop markets for woodland products.

Our involvement, lead by Meg Chambers, is to identify 20 woodland owners or managers in the North Wessex Downs Project Area who would benefit from the Good Woods project and meet the eligibility criteria. Those selected will receive site visits by a professional forester this summer to map and assess their woodland.

This will contribute to the overall Good Woods target of visiting and mapping 10,000 hectares of woodland and supporting 200 woodland owners and managers in improving the condition of their woodlands in line with the UK Forestry Standard.
