Wind Turbines refused

Planning permission refused for 28MW wind farm at Bullington Cross in Hampshire.

The 14-turbine project to the west of Basingstoke and south of Whitchurch had been recommended for rejection before the planning committees at Winchester, Basingstoke and Dean and Test Valley councils convened. It was also opposed by the Ministry of Defence.

Impacts were feared in particular on the South Downs National Park and North Wessex Downs Area of Outstanding Natural Beauty.

Andrew Lord, Planning Advisor for the North Wessex Downs AONB  commented "We are pleased at the  decision and that the impact on the AONB was a significant influence on the councils' decision. This proposal was complicated as the site lay across the boundaries of three Local Authority areas and it is encouraging to see the three councils working together to conserve this protected landscape. We remain satisfied that our renewbale energy needs can be met in  more suitable locations"
